这一课时来自选修七第二模块，本模块的话题是My Senior Year。可以让学生先回忆下必修一第一模块My First Day at Senior High.通过复习，学生对描述学校生活方面已经积累了相关句型和表达，从而不难接受本篇文章。
本节课设计的是通过学习课文Highlights of my Senior Year，训练学生的阅读技能, 学习介绍美国学校生活。本节课语言简单，新单词不多，学生可以通过讨论解析本文，最后由学生介绍自己的高中生活。
教学目标: 准确地读单词，能记住高频词汇：settle, competitive, suit, elect；运用新单词完成相关任务，例如复述课文，回答问题等。

在这堂课的第一部分，文章理解方面，学生经过一年多的学习，能够快速而准确地找到文章的主旨大意和获取更多的细节信息。但是，在深层次的理解文章和概括能力方面，还需要进一步的提高。语言知识学习这一部分，在导学案的帮助下，学生轻松地学习了本课重点单词和短语，分析了较长较难的句子，加深了对文章的理解，同时对重要的句型，语法进行了复习与巩固。学生能够在自主课上高质量完成，展示课上，重点是检查掌握情况和点拨重难点。可以采用听写，口头问题等多种形式在小组内比赛或不同小组之间比赛，既起到检查和督促的作用，也能充分体现在1121课堂模式下，一个班级中小组间合作与竞争。
